Getting Your L’s

Since we are in the state of Victoria you need to deal with VicRoads. They are the traffic organisation who manages roads and traffic including licences.

The Minimum Age Requirement is 16. You need to be 16 years old before you can sit for a Learners test.

Other prerequisites

All learner applicants must be a Victorian resident.

What tests do I have to take?

– Learner Permit test.
– An eyesight test.

What’s on the test?

The Learner Permit Test consists of 32 multiple choice questions based on Victorian road laws.

What do I need to score to pass?

You need to answer at least 25 out of 32 questions correctly (minimum total score 78% required to pass the test).

You need to book a learners test with VicRoads or call them for more information on 13 11 71.

Booking the test requires one to sit for it in one of VicRoads offices. Book your test for the office closest to your residence for an easy visit.

After you successfully pass their learners permit test you are then permitted to drive a car under supervision. Your supervisor must be someone with a full Australian driver’s licences. If this is your first time then we recommend you take your first lessons with a qualified driving instructor. We would be very happy to work with you obtaining your driver’s licence.

You have your Learners Permit – watch out for the special rules

  • Your must not consume any alcohol during your driving lessons and your blood alcohol level must be 0.0%
  • Learner permit drivers must be supervised at all times by fully licensed Australian driver who really also should have less than 0.05% or 0.0% blood alcohol concentration
  • Learner drivers cannot tow other cars
  • It is mandatory to clearly display L plates on the front and rear of the car
  • At all times during learner sessions a learner driver cannot use mobile phones (including hands-free devices)
  • Learner permit driver must carry their learner permit licence at all times
